At some point in the future the Flare network will be launched by the people at Flare Networks. The two ledgers will be in a relationship together though. Some exchanges will distribute Spark as well. If you own XRP at an exchange that doesn't participate, you can still withdraw your funds to your own non custodial XRP ledger account — eg. Please reach out to the Flare Networks team if you have any questions about these things. Spark tokens will be distributed at a moment that is still to be announced by the Flare team on the Flare network , based on the amount of XRP owned on the XRP ledger. Using my tool you will be guided through the process of storing a reference on your XRP ledger account to your probably: to be generated account on the Flare network. You can already use the tool today , even though the Flare network isn't ready yet, and the Flare team haven't launched their Spark token distribution programme yet. If you have questions, please be patient: the Flare team will share more details over time, or check their timeline: some questions have already been answered by the Flare team. Please follow this article up with your own research. The Bifrost Wallet is a new multichain wallet to be used in decentralized finance across different networks like Flare Network and Ethereum. Towo Labs has partnered with the Flare Network to ensure user access to the Flare Network applications on the launch of the Flare mainnet. Flare Finance, Trustline, Gala Games. Additionally, since Bifrost is a multichain wallet, it will provide additional support for other blockchain tokens like XRP , Dogecoin, Ethereum, and more. On top of being an all-in-one solution for holding your Flare Network related assets, Bifrost will also allow users to delegate detachable Spark votes to the Flare Time Series Oracle and mint f-assets from their application. Bifrost will be available by launch and is undergoing a security audit. It will be important to confirm that your specific hardware wallet provider is supporting the Spark airdrop, which can be found here. Flare Network makes a very clear distinction between wallets that will support the claim process vs wallets that will support the claim process and Spark token. In the case that your wallet provider is supporting the claim and Spark token, you will be able to access your Spark at launch through your wallet providers user interface. If your wallet provider is only supporting the Spark claim like Nano Ledger, then you have some decisions to make on how exactly you would like to access your Spark airdrop when the Flare mainnet is live. Users can set the message key for the Spark claim to an Ethereum-compatible address within the same wallet as their XRP was for the snapshot. However, if the wallet provider does not support the Spark token at launch, then you will have to find a third party to connect to the Flare Network through like MetaMask , which provides a plugin for Ledger Nano users. This would allow the user to import this address via the recovery seed phrase into the Bifrost wallet when it launches. Users choosing to set the message key to an Ethereum-compatible address within the same wallet provider as their XRP address can also choose to import their wallet with the recovery seed phrase to Bifrost at launch. However, this would import all of their token addresses from their current wallet to Bifrost and may not be preferable for many people. These are all just options and if you already have your Ledger Nano setup for the Spark claim, you do not need to change anything as you will be able to plugin to the Metamask browser extension to access your Spark tokens. Per Towo Labs, Bifrost imports are only compatible with 12 or word recovery seed phrases. Additionally, the Bifrost Wallet will be available on or before the date that Flare Network launches, so it is a valid option for users looking to participate in the Flare Network on Day 1 and will be undergoing an independent security audit. If users held their XRP on a participating exchange during the snapshot date, then their exchange should reach out with details on if they will support the Spark token or require users to set an Ethereum-compatible address for the Spark airdrop to be delivered through. It is important to note that you will not receive the Spark airdrop on this date. In order to claim your Spark airdrop, please visit the two websites below to set an Ethereum-compatible message key for your XRP accounts. Thanks to CynArts for help with the flowchart! Its really just up in the air if ledger nano will support the spark token. Why do we need to use metamask? If you have a Ledger Nano and claim through an ETH address there, the spark token may not be supported at launch. Therefore, you would have to hook up the Ledger Nano wallet to MetaMask in order to move you spark tokens. It is all very confusing and unnecessarily complicated. The issue is that Ledger Nano has not decided to actually support the Spark token through their platform yet. If they would just support from launch, then people would not have to jump through hoops. If I connect my ledger to metamask, will I be able to receive d flare and participate in both networks? Delegating votes and providing collateral. Hi Patty! Thanks for all you do! I originally claimed my spark through XRPToolkit using a ledger eth based address as my message key. Since then, I have changed my message key to a MetaMask eth based address. Will I have any problems receiving my spark assuming everything was inputted correctly? You should not have any issues going either route! So there is no way to change the key now? What about subsequent drops? Super excited to put my Spark and XRP to work! You can change the wallet application you access these tokens through by importing it to another provider like Bifrost utilizing your 12 or 24 word seed phrase. After the launch of the Flare Network many people will immediately send their FLR tokens to the Bifrost wallet because of all the functionality staking, minting, delegate votes of this wallet. Does the Bifrost wallet support the snapshot that will happen 1 month after launch? If not, all these people have to unstake their FLR tokens and send it back to an Exchange that supports the snapshot Bitrue for example. I hope somebody can give me an answer to this question. Thanks in advance! However, be on the lookout for exact guidance from their team after the Flare Network goes live. Hey David — as long as you set the message key on your XRP account to an ETH address through the claim process, then you will receive the Spark airdrop. However, you may need to connect your Ledger Nano to Metamask after the airdrop to access your tokens on the Flare Network blockchain. This would be in the case that Ledger Nano does not provide support for the Spark token. Hi, thanks for the breakdown. Im confused with linking Ledger to MM. And what seed phrase do you install in the Bifrost wallet, Ledger or MM seed phrase. Im not generally confused but this process is complicated. I blame Ledger lol. Hey Tony — if you choose to import seed phrase to Bifrost, you will do so from whichever wallet provider you pulled the ETH address from. Additionally, if you use a ETH address from Ledger Nano as the message key, then in the case Ledger Nano does not support the Spark token, you can connect your Ledger Nano to Metamask so that you can access those tokens. Hopefully that clears it up for you some. Thank you. If we just leave our XRP in our coinbase exchange account, will we receive the spark tokens on June11 and then be able to move them to bifrost later? However, this will happen at launch of Flare Network not after the 11th of June. Thank you for that information. Never having a wallet before and new to this process, what do you recommend for a first time user? Hi, Just getting started with your great info. I have a Ledger Nano X that set up back in November I with a lot of help and it was a nightmare… it makes me still nervous about doing this stuff. Is there a good video you guys have or can recommend that starts at the beginning and goes thru the Spark claim step by step? Thanks a lot for your help! I do not have a video to recommend, but I found it pretty easily to setup and follow along with these two sites: flare. Hey Judy, I hope the link attached can help you with the claim process. I found this video helpful, thru the xrp toolkit. And is there any disadvantage towards claiming and receiving Spark in there versus using Bifrost? Thank you guys! Its definitely a viable option. I have heard they will be providing Spark token support as well as some dApp integrations. Worried Bifrost wallet will only be available by late-July, missing the Flare Network launch. Do you recommend going with Metamask before BF becomes available, or is there another option? If you are not aware, you can link Metamask and Ledger Live using Metamask browser extension in the Chrome browser, the only browser you can! Log on to Metamask. Love the information Patty! I cleared out my metamask wallet and had plug in and ledger for snap shot on 12 Dec If I still have some ETH in my metamask wallet before FLR drop, is it ok to have that in there or would you recommend it be completely empty in case FLR drops in metamask versus my ledger nano? Or is it an irrelevant issue if I had my ledger nano set up with metamask for snap shot? Is the Bifrost wallet as safe as Ledger Nano as I feel Ledger are the safest as approving a transaction on the device directly. There is definitely more information to be released around the security of the wallet. Unless they developed a multi-party computation wallet, then I think it will be hard to beat the safety of hardware wallets. However, the better functionality and ease of access could trump any safety concernse. Check out this video we did on the Bifrost security audit release! If we were to use Metamask wallet and connect to our ledger for added security, does Metamask have the same functions as the Bifrost wallet ie, stake Spark, vote, governance, mint F- assets etc. Lastly, will we have function like the bifrost wallet and interact with Flare finance and Trustline putting our F-assets into the Probity vault etc…. You and Mickey B Fresh are doing an incredible job, you are both so knowledgeable, thank god as this space is so confusing. Either checking out the Flare telegram group and asking there or messaging Metamask support will probably yield you a better answer.
