Cannabis grows on virtually every continent on Earth and appears to have been used for a range of things other than smoking it, though this is how a lot of people view it. Henry Ford in fact made a vehicle body out of it even and once hit it with a sludge hammer showing the strength of its, a product you would not do to a GM Saturn Car. Recently in a web based think tank a cannabis activist stated:  
"You take up a touchy issue with activists for this plant being labeled as stoners, and it is a stigma that not everyone gets the stones to experiment with and shake off in the public domain."  
Cannabis Activists are a really tiny part of living on Earth. You can find out how challenging it's for cannabis activists making some headway with such stigma attached.
